Normandale Community College is the college of choice for students seeking the highest value community college experience. We provide a first-class education for all students and offer the community a talented, highly dedicated faculty, an honored reputation for excellence and service, and outstanding educational programs.
Normandale Community College strives to serve the community. The college will be a full partner in business and workforce development, working hand-in-hand with local leaders to create opportunities for all. Through collaboration with other colleges and universities, we will create an array of educational options ranging from technical and career programs to bachelors and graduate degrees. We will strengthen educational programs for the rapidly growing south and southwest sectors of the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
Goal 1: To be nationally recognized for educational excellence
Objective 1.1 - To establish a culture that promotes excellence in teaching
- Recognize faculty and staff for professional excellence.
- Establish academic centers of excellence.
- Practice the scholarship of teaching.
Objective 1.2 - To enhance learning
- Support and recognize curricular innovation.
- Include multicultural perspectives and experiences more broadly in the curriculum and in student life and activities.
- Develop and implement a plan to increase students understanding of global perspectives.
- Expand and integrate service to the community into the learning process.
Objective 1.3 - To improve student success
- Assess and support our college readiness program.
- Improve retention and goal completion rates.
- Strengthen and focus educational services for students from different racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Goal 2: To be a leader in responsiveness and service to students
Objective 2.1 - To increase the colleges understanding of its market and the needs of current and prospective students
- Better understand the backgrounds, needs and aspirations of current and prospective students.
- Assess and analyze strengths and weaknesses of our programs and determine ways to address areas for improvement.
- Deliver programs in response to the needs of our community.
Objective 2.2 - To enroll larger numbers of people from different racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Expand the number of weekend and evening classes.
- Enroll larger numbers of people from other racial and ethnic backgrounds.
- Expand opportunities for high school students by enhancing relationships and identifying joint initiatives with school and educational leaders.
- Enroll larger numbers of adult students.
- Strengthen and expand the role of the web-enhanced and online learning.
Goal 3: To engage and respond more effectively to business and the community
Objective 3.1 - To meet the needs of communities and businesses in the region
- Increase the college’s responsiveness to the needs and interests of employers, civic leaders, foundations and philanthropists, elected and appointed public officials, leaders in the communities of color, the MnSCU Board of Trustees and leadership, MnSCU colleges and universities and others whose influence could strengthen the college’s ability to serve students and the community.
- Build relationships and strategic alliances with targeted key opinion leaders.
- Increase participation in key economic and workforce development strategies.
Objective 3.2 - To expand continuing education and customized training programs
- Increase participation in open enrollment, continuing education courses and programs by developing marketing strategies for specific learner groups and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement a plan to increase students understanding of global perspectives.
- Develop federal, state, corporate and non-profit partnership grants to support economic and workforce development needs that are aligned with the college’s mission.
Objective 3.3 - To increase the visibility and communication of the college and its programs among prospective students, to stakeholders and the public
- Increase placements of stories about the college in print, broadcast and digital media.
- Implement a college-wide marketing strategy.
- Increase the visibility and the marketing effectiveness of the college through the web.
- Create an alumni relations program.
Goal 4: To enhance infrastructure to support college priorities
Objective 4.1 - To establish and exceed financial goals
- Develop and implement a methodology to set enrollment targets annually.
- Increase support for the Foundation’s fund raising initiatives.
- Increase financial resources available for college priorities by securing public and private grants.
- Secure legislative support for the classroom bonding requests.
Objective 4.2 - To strengthen college operations and services
- Identify and implement strategies to enhance college processes and services.
- Strengthen the college’s information technology capabilities.
- Develop and implement a plan to strengthen employee communications and engagement.
Objective 4.3 - To increase institutional effectiveness
- Increase the college’s collection, analysis and use of data for decision making.
- Determine the appropriate accreditation process for the college.
