Associate in Arts Degree with Emphasis in Art

Students seeking an Associate in Arts (AA) degree in Liberal Education with an emphasis in Art must successfully complete the AA requirements and the specific emphasis requirements.  Emphasis requirements may also be used to satisfy the Minnesota Transfer Goal requirements.

Required courses:  (15 cr)

ART 1102    Art History Survey 1
   OR ART 1103   Art History Survey 2
   OR ART 1104   Art History Survey 3
ART 1121    Drawing 1
ART 1122    Two Dimensional Design
ART 1123    Sculpture 1
   OR ART 1124   Ceramics 1
ART 1127    Painting 1
Complete two additional art courses (6-8 cr) [excluding ART 1101].

Associate in Fine Arts in Art

The Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree is earned by completing 64 credits with a minimum of 31 credits of art requirements.  This is an integral part of the first two years of art studies.

Students should consult their intended institution for any additional admissions or general education requirements.

Art History - Complete two courses:

Drawing/Design - Complete three courses:

Portfolio Creation - Complete one 1-credit class:

Studio Course Electives:  (minimum of 15 cr)
Complete a minimum of five courses from at least three areas

Complete all 10 Goals of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum  (MnTC).  Art history and art studio courses may be used to satisfy Goals 6 and 8.  With careful planning, courses used to satisfy Goals 5 and 6 may be counted for Goals 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Mission Statement

The Art Department is committed to offering a high quality visual arts foundation curriculum that allows students to explore traditional studio arts, photography, digital studies and art history.  Introductory coursework in art provides the basis for the first two years of a visual arts curriculum to allow for transfer to a four-year program.

Specialities:
All art professors have received a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree and are experienced educators, as well as, practicing artists.
