Associate in Arts Degree with Emphasis in Art
Students seeking an Associate in Arts (AA) degree in Liberal Education with an emphasis in Art must successfully complete the AA requirements and the specific emphasis requirements. Emphasis requirements may also be used to satisfy the Minnesota Transfer Goal requirements.

Associate in Fine Arts in Art
The Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree is earned by completing 64 credits with a minimum of 31 credits of art requirements. This is an integral part of the first two years of art studies.
Students should consult their intended institution for any additional admissions or general education requirements.

Complete all 10 Goals of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC). Art history and art studio courses may be used to satisfy Goals 6 and 8. With careful planning, courses used to satisfy Goals 5 and 6 may be counted for Goals 7, 8, 9 and 10.
Other Graduation Requirements:
- Complete the specific major requirements.
- Earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher for coursework completed at Normandale.
- Earn 50 of the 64 credits at Normandale (earn 41 credits at Normandale if 9 credits have been transferred in from other Minnesota State Colleges and Universities) OR
- Earn 20 of the last 28 credits at Normandale (earn 11 credits at Normandale if 9 of the last 28 credits have been transferred in from other Minnesota State Colleges and Universities).
- File a graduation application during the first month of the semester you plan to complete your coursework.

Mission Statement
The Art Department is committed to offering a high quality visual arts foundation curriculum that allows students to explore traditional studio arts, photography, digital studies and art history. Introductory coursework in art provides the basis for the first two years of a visual arts curriculum to allow for transfer to a four-year program.
Specialities:
All art professors have received a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree and are experienced educators, as well as, practicing artists.
