International Student Admissions
Normandale Community College welcomes students from all over the world. An international student is defined as a person seeking admission to Normandale Community College who is not a U.S. citizen or is not a U.S. immigrant.
Prospective international students may apply to Normandale who are non-immigrants to the United States or seeking an F-1 student visa. (Permanent residents, refugees and political asylees are U.S. immigrants and complete the general admissions process only.
International Student Admission Requirements for International Students
- The student, must complete, sign, and return a general application form and submit the $20 application fee with the application. A bank draft drawn on a U.S. bank or international postal money order made payable to Normandale Community College may be used.
- The student, must complete, sign, and return the international admissions supplemental form.
- Official transcripts and exam results must be sent from the secondary school and from all colleges/universities attended. Records must be sent in the original language and in English translation. (Note: If the records are not official or original, send certified or attested true copies signed by authorized government official, U.S. embassy staff or a notary public. The college may decline to use any documents submitted.)
- Students whose native language is not English must submit one of the following:
a) results of the Test of the English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or
b) an internet computer-based TOEFL test score, or
c) test score result from the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) - Immunization records for rubella, mumps, measles, diphtheria, and tetanus is required.
- Deadlines for International Student Admissions
All application requirements must be submitted by the appropriate deadline or the student will be considered for the following term.
Students outside of the United States or who are currently in the U.S. but will be returning home:
Fall Semester -June 1, Spring Semester - October 1
Students inside of the United States & who will be remaining in the U.S.:
a) Students maintaining F-1 status or with no change of status: 1 month before the start of a term.
b) Students out of F-1 status or who need to change their status: 2 months prior to the start of a term (Note: Student must be approved by INS for their change of status or reinstated to F-1 status before starting the term.)
Additional materials needed:
- Students applying for an F-1 visa: Must show means of adequate financial support by submitting the financial certification form, (attached to the international admissions supplemental form) affidavit of support, or sponsor letter, and supporting documentation such as a bank statement.
- Persons who are already in the U.S.: Submit photocopies of your passport including photo, date valid, your visa and I-94 card.
- Students currently attending a U.S. high school: Contact the Admissions Office at (952) 487-8201 to determine the documentation needed for English proficiency.
- Students who are currently attending a U.S. college or university and would like to take only a limited number of classes here at Normandale Community College while remaining on that schools I-20: Must submit the above documentation (1-5) and a letter from the International Advisor at your current (I-20) school.
- F-1 Transfer Students: (maintaining F-1 status only) Students who would like to transfer from a U.S. school/college/university must submit the transfer recommendation form (attached to the international admissions supplemental form) and copy of current I-20.
- Transfering prior college or university course work from a foreign educational institution to Normandale Community College: Students are required to have an official evalutation completed of their foreign course work before it will be considered for transferability to Normandale Community College.

Other Important Information:
- Tuition for non-immigrant students; the 2009-10 tuition rate is $162.93 per credit. Additional costs and financial details for students interested n attending Normandale Community College are provided in the supplemental application form.
- Housing: No college housing is available. A housing referral list can be sent out upon request.
- Medical Insurance: All admitted F-1 students are required to purchase medical insurance through the college upon arrival. The college is not responsible for any medical bills incurred by any student.
- INS Forms: INS Form I-20 for F-1 visa application and Form I-539 (if needed) for change of status or reinstatement will only be released or sent directly to an accepted student applicant.
- Special Career Programs: Persons interested in the Dietetic Technology, Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Accelerated Nursing or Radiologic Technology programs must complete international admissions to be admitted to the college. After being accepted, the appropriate forms must be completed and submitted to the Health Service Coordinator to be considered for one of the specified programs.
