High School Students / Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Student Admissions
The Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Program is designed to offer Minnesota high school juniors and seniors with demonstrated academic achievement the opportunity to take college level courses while attending high school. The PSEO program allows high school students to earn college credits and, with the high school's permission, to use those credits toward the completion of your high school graduation requirements.
The courses are offered during the fall and spring terms on the Normandale campus. PSEO students are not eligible for courses below college level (numbered below 1000). Other selected course offerings also may not be available to PSEO students. The application deadlines the PSEO programs are July 1 for fall semester December 1 for spring semester.
The cost for all course tuition, fees and required textbooks are covered under the PSEO program. However, textbooks paid for through PSEO become the property of Normandale. Community College upon completion of the course due to policies established in law by the State of Minnesota. It also covers consumable supplies that are required specifically for a class, such as art supplies, film, etc. The program does not cover general schools supplies such as notebooks, pens, pencils, etc., or non-consumable supplies such as calculators, instrument rental, uniforms, etc. PSEO students are not eligible for courses with supplemental fees of $85 or more. The program does not cover any costs for classes that are not college level (numbered under 1000). PSEO students are not eligible for financial aid.
Admission requirements for the PSEO program
Admission requirements for participation in the PSEO program at Normandale Community College are:
High school seniors must rank in the top one-half or score at or above the 50th percentile on a nationally standardized norm-referenced test such as ACT, SAT, PSAT, PLAN or ITED. Eligible applicants must satisfy all three sections (reading, writing and mathematics) of Normandale's Course Readiness Assessments and must indicate a college level placement in reading.
High School juniors must rank in the top one-third or or score at or above the 68th percentile on a nationally standardized norm-referenced test such as ACT, SAT, PSAT, PLAN or ITED. Eligible applicants must satisfy all three sections (reading, writing and mathematics) of Normandale's Course Readiness Assessments and must indicate a college level placement in reading.
Applicants who are home schooled, from a high school that does not provide rank or have not completed a nationally standardized, norm-referenced can participate in the PLAN test at Normandale Community College.
- The student must have completed the PSEO application and provided the necessary documentation
- Registration for the exam will be taken on first come, first served basis.
- The test will be offered this spring on the following Saturdays: March13, April 24, May 15 and June 12.
- The cost for the exam is $20.00. The testing fee must be paid in advance at the Normandale Business Office
Normandale will contact applicants who do not meet criteria inviting them to participate in the PLAN test with information on how to register for the test.
**NOTE: The results of the Normandale Course Readiness Assessment are the determining factor for a student's eligibility to enroll in college-level courses paid for by the PSEO program.
How to Apply:
ALL materials must be submitted together.
- A completed and signed Normandale Community College PSEO Application. (This form is available to download below.)
- A current official high school transcript showing class rank/size. (To be considered official, transcripts must be prepared and sealed by the issuing institution or a firm acting on its behalf, in an envelope bearing the issuing institution's letterhead and submitted to Normandale without a third party being involved in opening the document before being delivered to Normandale Community College.)
- A Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) PSEO Program Notice of Student Registration form. Parts 1 and 2 of the form must be completed and signed. (This form is available to download below.)
Alternative/Home School:
- A completed and signed Normandale Community College PSEO Application. (This form is available to download below.)
- Records of academic achievement form 9th grade on.
- Records of immunizations
- ACT, SAT or PSAT or PLAN scores
- A MN Dept of Education (MDE) PSEO Program Notice of Student Registration Form. Parts 1 and 2 of the form must be completed and signed. (This form is available to download below.)
PLEASE ALSO NOTE:
- Students who have previously registered for college courses must request an official transcript from all the colleges where they have attended. College transcripts will not be considered official unless they are mailed directly from the issuing institution to the Normandale Office of Admissions.
- Students who have ACT, SAT, Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate (IB) or other scores should obtain an official copy of those scores and have them mailed directly from the issuing organization to the Normandale Office of Admissions. (These scores may provide a waiver of Normandale's Course Readiness Assessment requirements.)
