Computer Center Policies
Student Account Initiation
You must read and agree to the terms below to activate your account.
- You must be a registered Normandale Community College student paying current term fees.
- No disruptive children are allowed in the Open Lab.
- All printing generated in the Open Lab must be paid for with a Normandale printer coupon.
- Course work takes priority over browsing the web for pleasure, emailing for pleasure, etc.
- Pagers should be turned to silent mode before entering the Computer Center. Please leave the Open Lab area when talking on a cell phone.
- All special paper/material used for printing must be shown to a Computer Center staff member in its original package for approval of use.
You must abide by the following procedures:
- Access to the Internet is a privilege. All students at Normandale Community College are responsible for using Internet resources in an effective, ethical and lawful manner.
- The following must be adhered to by all persons that use Internet resources whether from computers on campus or when dialing in from off campus:
Communications Over the Internet
- Electronic communications facilities (such as email, talk, network news, and Internet Relay Chat) are for college related activities only.
- Fraudulent, harassing or obscene messages, and/or other materials must not be transmitted over the Internet, Normandale - NCCnet, or any other network on or off campus. Fraudulent messages are messages sent under an assumed name, or modified address, or with the intent to obscure the origin of the message.Harassment Messages are messages that harass an individual or group because of their sex, race, religious beliefs, national origin, physical attributes, disability, or sexual orientation. Obscene messages contain obscene or inflammatory remarks directed toward an individual or group.
Inappropriate Use of Resources
- No one may deliberately attempt to degrade the performance of a computer system on the network/Internet, or to deprive authorized personnel of resources or access to any computer system.
- Deliberate, excessive use of these services will be construed as an attempt to deprive others of resources.
Network Configuration
- No one may install any software or establish a TCP / IP resource on the campus network without the explicit consent of the Director of Technology.
- All addresses are administered by Computer Services.
- Users must adhere to the addressing conventions established by the Computer Services department.
Security
- No one may use loopholes in computer security systems or knowledge of a special password to damage computer systems, to obtain extra resources, to take resources from another user, to gain access to systems, or to use systems for which proper authorization has not been given.
System Accounts
- Accounts are assigned to individuals and no one may use another person's account.
- Unauthorized use of another user's account will result in automatic suspension of the account.
Use of Disclaimers
- If an individual wishes to participate in a news group of a controversial nature, s/he is encouraged to include a disclaimer within the text of any document that states the author is speaking for him/herself and not as a representative of Normandale Community College.
Financial Gain
- No one may use resources of the Internet for personal financial gain by posting messages that promote their products or services.
Use of Internet
- No one may participate in any activity which violates the spirit of cooperation that is the basis of the Internet.
- The individual user is responsible for his/her image on the Internet as well as the image of Normandale Community College.
- Any student of Normandale Community College who has Internet access is expected to comply with these procedures, the generally accepted policies and practices of the Internet, and with the local policies and procedures that apply to any resource to which the user may have access.
- Normandale computing services may not be used for illegal activities or unauthorized purposes including, but not limited to Harassment, Sexual Harassment, Destruction of or damage to equipment, software or data, Unauthorized copying of copyrighted material, Disruption or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications, Installation, change, or deletion of any information on any of NCC's computers or related equipment.
Credit cards
Credit Cards will be an acceptable alternative to cash payment for general fees, course fees, special fees and purchases made in the college bookstore. Credit limits established by the financial institution that require telephone authorization must be adhered to if purchases are involved. Refund of fees paid by credit card are refunded to the student.
