Campus Security
Record Maintenance
Daily logs are kept by each campus security officer and filed daily in the Campus Security Office. Digital video is recorded for 30 days, before it is erased.
Initial Criminal Complaint Reports
- Computer generated reports will be completed on all criminal activity and kept on file in the Campus Security Office. If a police department case number has been assigned, this will be noted on the report.
- The Director of Security shall determine the initial criminal classification utilizing the FBI Uniform Crime Guidelines.
- Yearly reports of criminal activity will be requested from the Bloomington Police Department.
- Original reports and yearly reports will be maintained for seven (7) years in the Campus Security Office.
- A copy of the criminal report will be forwarded to the Campus Security Supervisor for review within one (1) day of taking the report.
Initial Non-criminal Complaint Reports
- Hand written reports will be completed for all non-criminal activity.
- These reports will be reviewed and discussed quarterly by the Director of Campus Security and the Vice President of Administrative Services.
- Original copies will be maintained for seven (7) years in the Campus Security Office.
Crime Report Statistics
Criminal statistics used in the annual campus security report are compiled from the following sources:
- Reports taken by the Normandale Community College Campus Security personnel.
- Reports received from the Bloomington Police Department via annual request for data.
- Reports received from campus officials as defined in the Campus Security Act.
- Final statistics are published in the Campus Security Report and Right to Know booklet annually.
Timely Warnings
The Security Department will issue timely warnings to the campus based on the following criteria:
Criteria
- It is determined a threat to the campus exists because
- perpetrator(s) have not been arrested and are unknown.
- perpetrator(s) are known and determined to be a continued threat.
- It is determined that a warning to the campus community will not adversely affect any law enforcement investigation/prosecution (consult local police officials).
- It is determined that a timely warning will aid the campus community members in avoiding similar occurrences.
The Director of Security will use any of the following methods of disseminating the timely warning:
Methods
- Memo to the general campus community, written and/or campus e-mail
- Memo to specific campus groups
- Announcement on entry monitors
- Posters/flyers
- Announcement via campus voice-mail
- Class announcements
- News releases
