Student Rights
Normandale Community College, in compliance with the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records. Students can inspect and view their records within 45 days of the day the Records Office receives a written request for access. Students may ask the college to amend a record by writing to the Director of Registration Services and clearly identifying what part of the record is inaccurate and why it is inaccurate.
Records will not be released to other persons without permission from the student except to those officials or agencies with specific legal authorization.
The following information has been designated as "directory information" and, as such, is available to the general public: student name, address, telephone number, most recent previous school attended, dates of attendance, class standing, major field of study, degrees, certificates and awards received, activity participation, birth date and place of birth, and full or part time status. To prevent release of this information outside of the College, the student should contact the Director of Registration Services. Copies of the College's policy on data collection and confidentiality are available from the Director of Registration Services.
Effective July 1, 2007, Minnesota Statutes 135A.145 prohibits colleges and universities and any affiliated organization from providing a "card issuer" with the names, addresses, phone numbers or other contact information about its undergraduate students without the student's consent.
