Book charging is an interest-free line of credit that allows you to wait until after the semester has started to pay for your books.
It allows you to charge up to $600 to cover the cost of your books, supplies and technology, purchased at the Normandale Bookstore, to your tuition and fees bill.
Book Charging is not grant money or additional financial aid! You are responsible for the payment of the cost of your books, either through the remainder of financial aid after your tuition and fees, or your own payment.
Financial aid recipients can use the remainder of their aid after tuition and fees to pay for their books purchased from the Normandale Textbook Depot.
If your financial aid eligibility is not sufficient to cover your tuition, fees and charged books, you will be responsible for the payment of the remaining balance due.
Financial aid applicants may charge the cost of books up to $600 if:
Your eligibility may change if you are suspended from financial aid, or your account becomes past due after your book charging eligibility was originally determined.
Book charging purchases must be made by the 7th day of the term. Students who have not used Book Charging by this time but plan to use excess financial aid to pay for their books will have to wait until after aid disbursement on the 10th day of the term to access these funds. We recommend you use book charging if you are eligible.
This is not free money or additional financial aid. You are paying for your textbooks through financial aid or your own payment. You are responsible for full payment of your books if you become ineligible for financial aid or if your aid is not enough to cover tuition/fees and your books.
Failure to pay all charges on your account will prevent you from registering for future courses. A hold will be placed on your academic record at Normandale, and any debt may be referred to a collection agency.
If you wish to charge supplies (such as notebooks, pens, backpacks, etc.) in the Normandale Campus Store, you will be required to sign a consent when picking up your items. Federal regulations require that students give consent for all non-textbook purchases that they wish to charge against financial aid.
Students who are currently enrolled in the Nelnet Payment Plan may include the cost of books in their payment plan.
To qualify for Nelnet Payment Plan Book charging:
If you are shopping in person or online, use Book Charging as your payment type (you must present a valid ID).
You are responsible for full payment of your books if you should default on your payment plan. Failure to pay all charges on your account will prevent you from registering for future courses. A hold will be placed on your academic record at Normandale, and any debt may be referred to a collection agency.
Please review the information below so you are prepared and ready for the upcoming semester:
PSEO students who fail to return textbooks and/or materials to the Textbook Depot by the deadline for the term will have a hold placed on their record. PSEO students will not be able to register or receive required textbooks and/or materials for the next semester until the fee is paid in full through e-services or the Payments and Billing office.
Complete and submit your MDE PSEO form to Student Services. Students who do not complete and return the form each semester will not be allowed to register.
Veterans receiving Chapter 33 benefits are eligible for book reimbursement from the VA. In order to process this request, you must complete the Veteran and Military Benefits Request Form and submit it to the Records Office.
Eligibility each term is limited to $500 for full-time enrollment and $250 for part-time enrollment. The amount is determined by the VA and paid directly to the student. Once students receive the funds from the VA, they are expected to reimburse the Payments and Billing Office for the books charged.
Students who are receiving Third Party benefits that cover books must provide this information to the Payments and Billing Office to make the funds available for a book charging account to use at the Normandale Textbook Depot. The amount of eligibility is determined by the Third Party payer.
Students with past due balances are not eligible to use book charging. If you incur a past due balance after you have already been notified of your book charging eligibility, you are no longer eligible. You cannot use book charging until the past due balance is paid in full.
Your financial aid will pay to your tuition and fees first. To calculate whether you will have enough financial aid remaining to cover your books, you can get the following information from e-services:
Total tuition and fees from the term (from Payments and Billing)
- Total financial aid for your credit level (from Financial Aid:Estimated Awards)
= Excess financial aid that can be used to pay for books
If you do not have excess financial aid or it is not enough to cover your books, you may still use book charging to add your book costs to your bill. However, you will be responsible for payment of your book costs that are not covered by financial aid.
After the book charging period ends, book costs can no longer be added to your tuition and fees account via book charging (for financial aid recipients and Nelnet payment plan participants).
If you wish to purchase books after book charging has ended, payment will be due to the bookstore at the time of purchase.
Please be aware that financial aid cannot be used to cover shipping charges for textbook orders.
If you selected pick-up, you will receive an email to schedule an appointment to pick up your books. Please have orders picked up within three weeks of the date the order was placed or it will be cancelled and the amount refunded.
