Normandale Community College has resources to help low-income students like the Free Laptop Program.
Applications are approved on a rolling basis; however, students will not hear about approval or denial until after September 3, 2024. If approved, students will be sent a link to schedule a time to pick up and setup their laptop in person. This communication will be sent to their student email.
Yes, you do need to be a current student enrolled at Normandale in the semester you would like to receive a laptop. If you are admitted to Normandale, but you are not currently taking classes, you are not eligible to receive a laptop at this time.
This program is a needs-based program for students who have financial (or other) complications securing a device to complete academic work. Priority is given to students who are Pell-eligible, low income, etc. All applicants have an opportunity to explain to reviewers why they should qualify in the laptop application.
Approved students will receive an email to their student email account (starID@minnstate.edu).
Students are approved for a laptop on a rolling basis.
No. Normandale will not distribute the free laptop to anyone but the approved student. You must present a photo ID (state, federal Normandale ID) at the time of pick up.
No. One free laptop is issued to each student. If you believe you have an extenuating circumstance that we should consider, you are welcome to apply. Priority goes to students who have never received a laptop before.
Only approved students will be enrolled in this course.
Multiple timeslots will be available on the D2L Internet Safety Training page. Pick-up is only available by appointment. You may not share this link with other students.
No. Normandale ITS will not fix your laptop for you. You must use the Lenovo warranty with your laptop (see the warranty link on this page to access it).
Please make every effort to make your scheduled pick-up time. If you are unable to make the time, you will have a link in your Normandale email to cancel the appointment time. You can also call the Tutoring & Writing Centers to let us know: 952-358-8624.
We have limited appointments each day, so informing us you are unavailable opens a timeslot for another student to pick-up! Thanks for your cooperation!
Please email FreeLaptopProgram@normandale.edu if you have questions.
The Free Laptop Program is primarily funded by private donors. This is your opportunity to thank the donor. How has this free laptop has impacted your life personally and academically?
